Born and raised in Taiwan, Bruce Chiu is a writer and director based in Los Angeles and Taipei. He earned his master's degree from the University of Southern California (USC), School of Cinematic Arts, specializing in Film and TV Production with a focus on directing.
Bruce has written and directed several short films that were selected for prestigious film festivals, including the Raindance Film Festival, Toronto Reel Asian International Film Festival, Out on Film Atlanta's LGBTQ Film Festival, and LA Shorts International Film Festival, among others. He also received the Jury Award and Audience Award at the USC Asian Pacific Film Festival in 2019 and 2022, respectively.
As a writer, Bruce's feature script, "A Far Away Hope," was included in the final list of the 44th Taiwan Excellent Screenplay Awards, the script competition officially operated by the Taiwanese Government. While working on his next feature script, Bruce is also collaborating with other feature and TV writers constantly.
Bruce's directorial debut feature, "A Girl out of the Country," filmed in 2022, was officially selected at the 43rd Hawaii International Film Festival and nominated for the NETPAC Emerging Asian Director Award. "A Girl out of the Country" is scheduled for a theatrical release in Taiwan in March 2023.
